Our Culture
If we were to describe Christ Church on Long Furlong, it would be... Christ-centred, loving, friendly, informal, all involved, like an extended family, evangelical Anglican, rooted in Scripture and open to the Spirit, local, welcoming all-ages. |
Missional
Our desire is to be a missional congregation, “roots down, branches out” - with our roots deep down into Christ, and reaching out to our neighbourhood. We aim to be disciples and make disciples. |
Service shape
We worship together for about an hour and 20 mins most Sundays. We celebrate God’s love shown to us in Christ, experience His forgiveness, build a real and vibrant faith, pray for God’s world, and seek to be empowered by the Holy Spirit to live for Christ during the week. Once a month we share Communion. We include a mix of new songs and older hymns, a reading from the Bible, a talk, and prayers. Everything you need to say or sing is clearly displayed on the big projection screen. The all-round audio system means that hearing aid users can easily hear everything, even over the background buzz of babies and small children, so please don't feel embarrassed to bring youngsters in. |
Word and Spirit
Our talks are biblically based, and applied to everyday life. You can sample some talks on the Talks page. You can find out what talks are scheduled for this term from the Whats On Page We seek to be open to the leading and guiding of the Holy Spirit. We offer prayer ministry after each service. |
Children and Youth
Everyone starts in the service together, and after 15 minutes or so the children and youth usually go to their own groups. During the holidays the services are structured to appeal to all ages |
Local
Anyone can come to a service - do give it a try! We have quite a local feel; the majority live within a mile of the school where we meet, and about a third live on Long Furlong estate. On a typical Sunday in term time about 110-130 people would be in the service. The regular core of attenders is about 110 adults and 50 children. |
Refreshments | After the service there are hot and cold drinks and biscuits (and sometimes cake!) |
